I just looked on google and put in furniture into the search to look at the latest news and read that during July 2009, the wet weather helped furniture sales increase throughout the month. Ironic as the United Kingdom had quite a hot month with a intense week of swealtering weather. London though apparently was a place to be to buy furniture with the BRC-KPMG London Sales Monitor recording excellent furniture sales.
Even though the weather had a negative effect on many other industries, the furniture industry within Central London flourished with a 2.2% recorded sales increase than a 2008 for like for like pieces of furniture.
The KPMG, Helen Dickson said that with a strong performance in June of 2008, the capital of London saw a superb increase of 2.2 as we mentioned above when comparing the figures to July 2008. As the national trend goes, this figure is away above with the rest of the United Kingdoms furniture sales being recorded as a 1.8% increase across the UK the month before.
She also said quoted – “With clearance sales, we perhaps would have expected stronger growth in London given the recent trend in the capital but with many of these starting earlier in June this year, and the weather having taken a turn for the worse, demand may have been satisfied last month rather than in July.”
Not bad considering there is a credit crunch effecting the whole of the United Kingdom and countries of the world. Even though we all hope this will soon come to an end with furniture sales increasing further.
